Elvis Costello puts a duo touch on his catalog in Ann Arbor

Less proved to be more when Elvis Costello and longtime keyboardist Steve Nieve performed Saturday night, March 8, at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor.
The two-hour show — the last of this leg of the pair’s duo tour — was not the high-octane (and high-volume) rock display Costello usually does with his full band, the Imposters, which last played nine months ago at Detroit’s’ Masonic Temple Theatre. Rather, it was stripped-down and ambitious exposition in which Costello and Nieve stripped down the night’s 22 songs to their melodic essences and then applied sometimes drastic alterations for fresh interpretations of the material.
